Nymphing/Indicator Fly Fishing
Nymphing/Indicator Fly Fishing can be fished with a variety of nymphs, eggs, and small streamers; it will also vary in length pending river, season, scenario, water levels, clarity and sections. Primary engagements with this technique often revolve around Trout & Steelhead Gorging on Salmon or Steelhead eggs, and this is the most productive of all fly fishing techniques from a year round perspective. This technique will yield more “action” then any other minus HIGH WATER SCENARIOS where streamer applications come into play. Hooking upwards of 30 steelhead on a Fall/Winter Day cannot happen with a streamer because you can’t present a fly often enough to that many fish that would otherwise just look or spook and not take a fly. You need to be able to increase the amount of time your flies are being seen by different fish, then determine which fly they appreciate the most from day to day by running a couple different ones per cast. Generally fished from straight across to a downstream position, this technique really covers allot of water very precisely and with more consistently then any other style of fly fishing. Unlike Western Horizontal or 45 Degree Angle Nymphing, Vertical Indicator FLY FISHING is the only way to go once your fishing over a few feet of water for SO many reasons! Tommy Lynch prides himself on being the FIRST Michigan guide to run Chuck & Duck Free Trips as it is NOT FLY FISHING! The Fish Whisperer Guide Service has become the authority on Vertical Nymphing here on the Pere Marquette and surrounding small rivers since he has more then just one way too teach you the technique... he has a dozen as each person is a little different when learning and often need a different approach. If you have to “CHUCK, THROW, LOB, or HEAVE” your Lead, Bobber, or Both... You are not fly fishing... You’re Spin/Pin Fishing With A Fly Reel!! Learning to Fly Cast is Learning to Fly Fish... Make sure your “Fly Fishing Guide” knows that!!

Spey/Streamer Fly Fishing
Swing/Spey Fly Fishing is the “Next Level” approach for those looking for even more sport within each fish they catch. Completely different in most respects to normal “Strip & Rip” streamer fly fishing where you draw a fish too you by bringing the fly back to the boat or yourself with a strip and attitude... This is more like “Plug Fishing” with a Fly Rod much like an Indicator Rig mimics spawn or worm fishing under a float. This is a “Shock & Awe” approach where many to most fish may be offended and spook, there is always one looking to take a shot at the title WITH A CHIP ON HIS SHOULDER! Casting downstream and just across from your person at a decent angle with possibly a single handed rod, but likely a Switch or Spey Rod, you then track your fly with a variety of different heads, sink-tips, and runners all set up for the river and or conditions you are fishing. Fly selection and even technique matter little, where line placement, speed, line and rod choice set the pace!! Little too know action to the fly is needed as the current, line, fly and flash do most of the “Teasing” for you. Casting becomes the primary pay off with this technique as it is extremely fun, creative, ELITE, and beautiful; and when you do score a “Grab” you realize why so many are so into this technique. Sometimes just hanging the fly will produce such HIT you would swear The Fly Owes The Fish Money or something it is so vicious!! With origins of the River Spey in mind, this style of Fly Fishing is respected, ancient, and world renowned for not just Steelhead, but Sea Run Browns and Salmon too! These fish do not “Take” a fly that is swung... THEY END IT which is a HUGE part of the romance of a swung fly and where one finds more satisfaction per fish caught!!! Compared to Indicator Fly Fishing, there is far less technique during the drift but much more during the act of casting. Learning to Spey Cast with Two Handed Rods is Elite & Tricky... and should be your “next step” after learning the basics with a standard floating lines and single handed nymphing or streamer approaches... Walk Before You Run!!!
